Choices include Accounting, Fitness, Nutrition, Personal Finance, Public Speaking, Reading and Literature, and Vocabulary Studies. College Prep Diploma requires only three credits of elective courses. Students only have to replace two elective courses with specialized job skills training courses. For students who want to gain real-world experience while working on a high school diploma, Career Pathways track is available. Open electives courses available for this program include Accounting, Chemistry, Fitness, General Mathematics, Nutrition, Physics, Pre-Calculus, Public Speaking, Reading and Literature, and Spanish. The general diploma program requires five elective courses in addition to the core course. JMHS offers two diploma options: the General Diploma program and College Prep Diploma. Part of its history is its parent school, Ashworth College, known for its online career-training programs. James Madison High School is a private, for-profit online school.
Assessments, courses, and other requirements are accessed through the Blackboard management system.
Online courses paved the way for more enrollees since 2015, from 30 to more than 180 students.
The Academy is accredited as a Special Purpose School by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC).
Davidson Academy is known as “a university school for profoundly gifted pupils.” Students with the 99.9th score percentile for IQ and achievement tests are considered profoundly gifted.

For students in high school, tuition is capped at $15,000 with $2,000 merit scholarships available.

Some of Davidson Academy’s electives include Animation, Astronomy, Comparative Mythology, Computer Technology, Computer Technology II, Creative Writing, Financial Literacy, Fitness, Health, Photography, Science Fiction, and Yearbook. Besides subject area courses worth 23 credits, students need to complete five electives courses. Its online classes are run in synchronous sessions with responsive instructors and excellent peer communication. The school also provides a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), where students (guided by their parents and school staff) make decisions on the customization of their learning. Unlike traditional schools, Davidson Academy does not group its students by age-based grades but by the ability level they show.
